The Newton Girls Soccer team improved their record to 4-5 on Friday with a 3-0 home win against Williamsburg, while the Cardinal boys lost at Grinnell 2-1. 

The Newton girls got two goals in the first half and one in the second. Sophia Coady had a hand in all three, scoring one and assisting on the other two, which were scored by Aliviah Ross. Ross now has a team-leading ten goals on the season, while Coady is second on the team with five. Coady is the Cardinals assist leader with six. The Newton girls next game is at Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday.  

After a scoreless first half, the Cardinal boys gave up two goals to Grinnell before getting one of their own with 1:57 left in the game. It came after a corner kick, and was scored by Troy Ramsey with an assist from Conner Vest. It was Vest’s second assist of the season and Ramsey’s third goal of the year. The Newton boys soccer team is now 2-9, and will host Knoxville on Monday.
