As the end of this school year approaches, teachers in the Newton School District already have their teaching assignments for next year. Two elementary schools currently in use, Emerson Hough and Woodrow Wilson, will be closed next school year. Those teachers will be relocated to either Thomas Jefferson or Aurora Heights elementary schools. Tim Bloom, the Director of Business Services for the Newton School District, says all teachers who wanted to stay in the district have positions for the upcoming school year, at either their preferred school or grade-level.

“There was a survey done with the staff to identify their priority on which location or grade they would want. We were able to fulfill at least one of those requests from the teachers at a 100% rate for one of those priorities.”

Bloom notes there are some position reductions due to teachers voluntarily leaving the district. The 2026-2027 school year in Newton will begin on Tuesday, August 25th, while the first work day for teachers is Monday, August 17th.
