The Newton Volleyball team will participate in their third and final preseason scrimmage today. The Cardinals are part of a twelve-team field at Johnston High School. Newton head coach Heidi Woollums says the team heads up to Johnston for this scrimmage every year.
“There is great competition up there. Lot’s of rated teams that are going to be there, and a very high level of play. We’ll be seeing Boone, Waukee, Winterset, Norwalk, and ADM. All great teams.”
Woollums says the scrimmage format is 30 minutes of play followed by a 10-minute break before you rotate to your next opponent. The scrimmage starts at 9 a.m.
The Cardinals will open the season at home on Monday, August 24th, hosting the Newton Cardinal Early Bird Invitational. The other teams participating are PCM, Des Moines Hoover, Saydel, and Centerville.
