
Norwalk Boys Soccer following their state qualifying win over Bondurant-Farrar
Both the Norwalk and Indianola boys soccer teams are competing in the Class 3A State Tournament this week, with first-round games to be played this evening in Indianola. Both games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Norwalk boys soccer squad qualified for the state tournament on Friday with a 4-0 victory at home over Bondurant-Farrar, following a come-from-behind victory over Carlisle in the substate semifinal. They come into today 12-4-3. The Warriors, who are seeded #5 in the 3A tournament, take on #4 Marion in the first round. The Wolves are 15-1-2 and qualified with a 2-1 victory over Decorah on Friday. Marion is led in scoring by senior Cole Angell with 23 goals on the year, while the Warriors’ senior Eli Scavo leads with 17 goals. One of which was scored in the qualifier on Friday. Norwalk vs. Marion is the third game on today’s 3A slate and will kick off at approximately 5 p.m.
The Indianola boys soccer team qualified for the 3A tournament on Friday with a 5-0 victory over Lewis Central in Council Bluffs. The Indians come into today 8-6-4. Indianola, who is seeded #8 in the 3A bracket, will have to take on #1 Xavier in the first round. The Saints are 13-1-2 this season and qualified with a 6-0 win over Mount Pleasant on Friday. Xavier is led in scoring by junior Ty Weiss with 17 goals, while the Indians’ junior Samuel Nochvay leads with 13. Indianola vs. Xavier is the final game of today’s 3A first round and will kick off after Norwalk vs. Marion, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Monday’s broadcast on 94.3 KNIA will be called by Shaffer Landuyt and Norwalk soccer alumnus Jack Brown. Coverage will begin at approximately 4:45 p.m. from Indianola Stadium. The second round of the state tournament will resume on Wednesday at Des Moines’ Mediacom Stadium.
