The possibility of allowing golf carts on Norwalk streets will receive further discussion from city leaders following action taken at the previous city council meeting.

During a dedicated work session, council members reviewed the topic of golf carts and heard public input from several residents. Three residents spoke in favor of allowing golf carts within the community. While no ordinance was considered during the meeting, council members agreed the issue warrants additional review. At the conclusion of the meeting, the council unanimously approved a motion directing staff to place an ordinance related to allowing golf carts on city streets on a future agenda.

The action does not authorize golf carts on city streets at this time, but begins the formal process of evaluating whether regulations should be established. Future discussions are expected to focus on issues such as permitted roadways, safety requirements, equipment standards, and enforcement.

The topic has generated interest in a number of growing Iowa communities as residents seek additional transportation options for neighborhood travel and recreation. Norwalk city officials are expected to continue evaluating the potential benefits and challenges before any final decisions are made.

The Norwalk City Council will meet tomorrow evening, but discussion of an ordinance for allowing golf carts on city streets is not on the tentative agenda.
