All six Norwalk varsity spring sports teams competed on Tuesday.

 

Girls Golf Wins Newton Invite

The Norwalk girls golf team placed first in the Newton Girls Golf Invite at Westwood Golf Course on Tuesday, scoring 171, two strokes ahead of second-place Williamsburg.

After placing below first for the first time in a month on Monday, the Warriors got back to winning on Tuesday. Junior Evelyn Kinney and senior Adelaide Smith led the way for Norwalk, tying for first place with scores of 41. Hayden Clausen was next in line for the Warriors, placing seventh. Norwalk has a day off before competing on Thursday in the Southeast Polk Girls Golf Invitational. First tee is set for 9 a.m. at Copper Creek Golf Club in Pleasant Hill. 

 

Boys Tennis Defeats Indianola on Senior Night

The Norwalk boys tennis team defeated Indianola on Tuesday’s Senior Night matchup, 9-2.

Norwalk received singles wins from spots 1, 2, 4, and 6 with Wyatt Coburn, Isaac Lors, Ben Swim, and Rohan Tiedt. The #1 matchup was the only one to go to three sets. All five Warrior doubles tandems won their matches. The Warriors move to 4-2 in conference play, tying Indianola for second place. Norwalk is off until next Tuesday as they will compete in the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament in Pella. Competition begins at Caldwell Park at 9 a.m.

 

Girls Soccer Gets One Over Des Moines Christian

The #2 in 2A Norwalk Girls Soccer team defeated #3 in 1A Des Moines Christian on Tuesday, 2-1.

Addy Wood scored the Warriors’ first goal off a penalty kick, and Pearl Brown capped off the night with a game-winning goal off an assist from Wood. Norwalk moves to 9-1 overall and hands the Lions their first loss of the season. Next up for the Warriors is the Soccer Classic cohosted by DCG and Urbandale this weekend. Norwalk is scheduled to play #5 in 2A North Polk at 5 p.m. on Friday and Independence at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Friday’s game will be at the Hy-Vee Multiplex in Grimes, while Saturday’s game will be played at Frerichs Field at Urbandale High School.

 

Boys Soccer Defeats Bondurant-Farrar

The Norwalk boys soccer team defeated Bondurant-Farrar at home on Tuesday, 4-1.

Tyden Eng scored two goals for the Warriors, while Eli Scavo and Teegan Kralik each scored one. Scavo and Kralik each also recorded one assist alongside Kipp Oppel. Norwalk moves to 9-3-1 with the win and will next face Dowling Catholic on Friday. That game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Dowling Catholic Stadium in West Des Moines. The Warriors are 0-6 against the Maroons dating back to 2019. 

 

Boys Place 4th, Girls 6th at Conference Track and Field Meet

Both Norwalk track and field teams competed at the Little Hawkeye Conference Track Meet in Indianola on Tuesday. The boys placed fourth with 79.5 points, while the girls placed sixth with 49 points.

The Warrior boys earned five top-three finishes in the meet, along with three individual conference titles (each by senior Kaiden Kunze):

400m Dash: Kaiden Kunze – First place (49.16)

Long Jump: Kaiden Kunze – First place (23-00.25)

200m Dash: Kaiden Kunze – First place (21.79)

Sprint Medley Relay: Breck Welch, Ethan Winlsow, Jamison Giesemann, & Xavier Bush – Second place (1:34.99)

100m Dash: Kaiden Kunze – Second place (10.85)

 

The Norwalk girls earned three top-three finishes in the meet:

3000m: Hannah Schmitz – Third place (10:31.23), breaking a 20-year-old school record by four seconds

4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay: Milena Catic, Kaia Stoulil, Leah Crick, & Kinsley Stumbaugh – Third place (1:09.67)

Distance Medley Relay: Avery Kelderman, Mary Bush, Ava Carlson, & Olive DeRocher – Third place (4:24.86)

 

Both Warrior track and field teams will be back in action on Monday in the Pella Dutch Coed Relays. Events begin at 4:30 p.m.
