The Class 3A #15 Pella Christian softball team swept the season series against Indianola Monday night in the resumption of their doubleheader that was rained out on June 10th, winning the first game 13-6 and taking the nightcap 1-0.
The opening game picked back up in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Eagles leading 7-3, and they picked up right where they left off. Pella Christian plated one run in the top of the sixth and five more in the seventh to grow their advantage to 13-3. The Indians didn’t go away quietly, scoring three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles ended the comeback effort there to secure the win. Brynn Roozeboom had a big game to lead the Pella Christian offense, going 4-5 with two home runs, a double, and 10 RBIs. Kaitlyn Bonnes and Alena Woosley each had two hits for Indianola in the first game, while also combining for three of the team’s five RBIs.
The nightcap featured a pitcher’s duel between Eagles freshman Reagan Van Maanen and Indians eighth grader Mia Krizmanic. The two underclassmen each hurled complete games for their respective squads, and held the offenses scoreless in 13 of the 14 frames over the course of the seven innings. Pella Christian scored the game’s lone run in the top of the seventh, when Alaina Herdegen tripled to right field and scored two batters later on a Rachel Kacmarynski bunt single. Van Maanen struck out three and allowed just six hits to pick up the shutout win in the circle. Krizmanic had four strikeouts in suffering the loss, giving up just the one run on six hits and a walk.
Pella Christian improved to 15-10 overall and 10-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference with the win, and they will close out the regular season tonight with a 6 pm game at Perry. Indianola dropped to 14-18 overall and 6-12 in the conference, and they will continue regular season action tonight at Des Moines East at 7 pm.
