Eagles Boys Track and Field 3rd, Girls 4th at the Tulip Time Relays

Making the short trip across town to compete in Pella’s Tulip Time Relays Thursday night, the Pella Christian boys track and field team took third place with 99 team points, while the girls finished in 4th with 88 points.

The Eagle boys posted five top-two finishes on the night, including winning two events. Brecken Ritzert bested the field in the long-jump (22’ 1.5”), then joined Landon Nunnikhoven, Ezra Ochsner, and Adam Kacmarynski to win the 4x100m relay (43.79). Ritzert also took second in the 200m dash (22.63) and teamed up with Nunnikhoven, Kacmarynski, and Sawyer Meinders to take second in the distance medley relay (3:44.95). Dean De Ronde added the other second place finish in the 1600m run (4:58.76).

The Pella Christian girls had six top-two finishes in the meet, including five event victories. The quartet of Lexi Terpstra, Amaia Agre, Olivia De Haan, and Rachel Kacmarynski teamed up to win both the 4x100m (49.13) and 4x200m (1:45.19) relays. Terpstra and Agre also teamed up with Meredith Van Wyk and Bailey Vos to win the sprint medley relay (1:47.56). Kacmarynski took first in the 100m dash (11.89), and joined Van Wyk, Vos, and Maisy Meinders to win the 4x400m relay (4:01.00). Van Wyk added the second place finish in the 200m dash (25.14).

Pella Christian Boys Tennis Falls to Pella

The Pella Christian boys tennis squad hosted cross-town rival Pella Thursday evening and fell in an 11-0 sweep. The Eagles hung tough in a pair of matches in both doubles and singles play, but were unable to secure a win. In doubles, Owen Verhoef and Sam Acquaviva forced a third-set tiebreaker at #3, but fell 6-4, 4-6, 9-11, while Liam Zula and Blake Gallaher fell 6-3, 6-4 at #2. In singles, Gallaher forced a third-set tiebreaker at #5, before falling 6-4, 2-6, 7-10, while Verhoef fell 6-4, 6-4 at #2. Pella Christian now stands at 1-7 overall on the season, and will look to get their second win of the year on Tuesday when they host Chariton at 4:15 pm.
