The Pella City Council has allowed construction to begin on extensive renovations to the Pella Community Center. A resolution on Tuesday’s agenda approves the construction contract and performance bond for the Community Center Renovation project. On May 5th, the council awarded a contract to Stahl Construction in the amount of $6,540,000 for the base bid, plus alternates. The project’s base bid involves renovating the current facility to include plumbing, HVAC, and electrical upgrades; fire sprinkler system upgrade; exterior window replacement; roofing; restroom upgrades; kitchen equipment/upgrades; and an upgraded elevator. Alternates include a stairwell addition and conversion of the eastern stairwell to usable office space. Substantial completion of this project is scheduled for April 2027.

Other agenda items approved include a public hearing to convey property to Lighthouse LLC at Bos Landen Golf Course, a 28E agreement for the Central Iowa Regional Tactical Team, accepting improvements and a $790,769 final contract for Pella Soccer Complex improvements, and approval of a bid for airport snow removal equipment from Murphy Equipment for $440,716.

Several policy and planning discussion items were on the agenda, including discussion about the future of the SCRAA and regional airport project in Mahaska County.
