It was another sensational year of activities at Pella High School, and that brings us back to the countdown of top stories and moments from the previous academic year.
This year’s countdown starts with a moment that won’t include the many trophies and medals Dutch athletes received, but certainly something that symbolizes a greater meaning in sports.
For the last four years, Lucy Diers has made crowds across central Iowa smile. The girl born in Africa with mental and physical limitations often got the chance to play the sport her family loves the most at the junior varsity level.
But with her graduation coming up this past May, Diers was no longer able to use those games for her competitive needs — but opportunity struck late in the season. Perennial powerhouse DCG agreed to let Diers play at the end of their regular season tilt at Pella High School on February 13th.
Head Coach Blaine Forsythe says Diers was a critical member of the Dutch during her time, as her impact on her peers will last for a lifetime.
Diers graduated this past May with her brother Emmanuel, who will certainly be featured on the countdown that follows.
