A public hearing on changes to the City of Newton’s current budget is set for 6:00 p.m. Monday at Newton City Hall. City staff says the budget amendments will not increase property taxes, and that expense changes to the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget are related to operational costs for the fire department, building inspections, street patching, garbage services, Maytag Pool repairs, and projects at the water pollution control plant and Westwood Golf Course. On the revenue side, the budget adjustments pertain to federal and state grants, FEMA reimbursements, additional building permit activity, the sale of land, and private donations.

With the changes, the City of Newton’s Finance Office says the 2025-2026 revenues will be adjusted up by $1.79 million to about $49.3 million. The listed $3.71 million increase in costs would raise city expenditures to $56.3 million.
