Simpson College is hosting a cello concert tomorrow with some local ties but also national publicity. Simpson College Violin/Viola Teaching Artist, Linda Benoit says there will be several composers Dr. Hannah Rumora will be playing pieces from.

“Dr. Hannah Rumora is coming up from Corpus Christi, Texas. She’s featuring works by three women composers which is very unusual. Florence Price who was the first African-American woman to have a piece played by a major symphony orchestra in the United States, and then she’s also playing some Nadia Boulanger who was a very famous composer. Libby Larson’s work will be played as well. She’s playing Beethoven which of course everybody loves and some Janáček. He is a Czech composer who is a fantastic composer. She’s opening the program with that.”

Tomorrow’s cello concert is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. in Lekberg Hall on the Simpson College campus. A dessert reception will follow the recital. School-age children are welcome to attend.
