The City of Newton’s annual Trunk or Treat at Maytag Park takes place tonight, in conjunction with Beggar’s Night. Newton’s Parks Operations Assistant Superintendent Jamie Murphy has put up Halloween displays in the north end of the park, and says there will be plenty of candy as well.
“We have close to 30 businesses this year that will have their trunks open, and you can come and get all kinds of candy. The Kiwanis loop of the park will be decorated with Halloween decorations.”
The trunk or treat called “Nightmare in Maytag Park” is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this evening. The Beggar’s Night hours in Newton tonight are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Murphy says on November 3rd she will take down the Halloween displays at Maytag Park, and start preparing for the approximate 400 Christmas displays that will be up from the Saturday after Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
Three other Jasper County communities are holding Beggar’s Night this evening. In Prairie City it’s from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., while 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. are the hours in Colfax and Monroe. Baxter’s Beggar’s Night is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, and in Kellogg it’s 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
