The Pella Christian cross country teams kicked off the fall sports season on Eagle Lane Thursday night at the Marshalltown Early Bird Invite. The Eagles’ girls squad brought home a fourth-place finish from the meet, while the boys team tied for fifth place.

Coming off of an individual State Cross Country Meet appearance last fall, Jaclyn Holmes led the Pella Christian girls team in the meet with a seventh-place finish. Holmes finished the course in 22:56.5. Katy Roose (26:27.3) and Karis Fikkert (26:43.7) finished just 14 seconds apart to bring home 15th and 16th place respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Jenna Van Maanen in 18th place (26:49.6), Grace Vermeer in 20th (27:06.5), and Metje Michmershuizen in 23rd (28:36.1).

The Pella Christian boys tied with Newton for fifth place in the meet with both teams tallying 123 points on the night. The Eagles top boys runner Kaden Van Wyngarden collected a top ten finish, coming in 8th (17:27.3). Ben Gosselink (18:56.2), Tyson De Vries (19:07.6), and Deacon Branderhorst (27:06.5) also broke the 20-minute mark, finishing 21st, 24th, and 27th respectively. Shaun Oosterheert (20:35.2), Eli Hoksbergen (21:05.9), and Zeb Kanis (22:03.0) rounded out the Eagles scoring with finishes of 43rd, 47th, and 51st.

Pella Christian head coach Mike Buchheit was extremely pleased with the results he saw Thursday night, stating that several kids broke personal records at Marshalltown.

The Eagles are now off until Saturday September 3rd, when they will run at the Central College Cross Country Course.
