A longtime administrator in the Pella Community School District was granted approval on a request for early retirement at Monday’s school board meeting. High School Principal Mark Lee will retire at the end of the school year.

“A high school principal’s job is a tough job, and Mark’s done it incredibly well,” said Pella Schools Superintendent Mark Wittmer. “We certainly wish him the best, and are reluctantly watching him go, but he’s provided a great service to us and all we can do is say ‘thanks’ and let him know how much we appreciate what he’s done.”

Lee began serving the district as an assistant principal before moving into the role of High School Principal, where he served the majority of his nearly 20 years as an administrator at Pella Schools.
