In a KNIA/KRLS follow-up story, new direction signs along a DOT detour route will only go into effect when highway 14 over the Mile Long Bridge is closed due to sustained winds exceeding 50 miles an hour. That’s according to Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat. Steve McCombs from the County Engineers Office says the detour, which would force motorists heading south to take G-28 to highway 163 south to T-17, will have the signs directing traffic. McCombs says a representative from the DOT will be discussing maintenance issues along the route with the county supervisors at a future meeting.
