The Central College men’s and women’s track squads both ran season bests in the 4×400 meter relay to earn NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Iowa State Cyclone Qualifier Saturday.
The men’s squad shaved over seven seconds off their previous season’s best but that likely won’t make the cut when the field is announced for next weekend’s national meet in Greencastle, Indiana. Meanwhile, the women’s squad improved their season’s best by over eight seconds to vault themselves deep in the national rankings currently ranked eighth in Division III. Typically, ten relays qualify for the national championship meet. Curtis Brondyke also competed in the long jump and improved his seasonal best and topped the NCAA provisional mark but likely won’t be enough to get accepted. Jill Ziskovsky equaled her best in the high, only one inch short of the NCAA qualifying mark. Matt Graber placed seventh in the shot put easily topping the NCAA provision mark.
DePauw University is hosting the NCAA meet Friday and Saturday. The fields will be announced late today . Brondyke and Ethan Miller have locked up spots in the pentathlon with automatic qualifying marks. Miller will also likely be accepted in the long jump and the high jump , Graber will be accepted in the shot put, Ziskovsky and Bentz are currently sitting ninth and 13th respectively in the pentathlon. Ziskovsky should be accepted and Bentz is on the bubble.
