The Pella Christian girls soccer team lost their season opener at Indianola last night 1-0. The two squads fought to a scoreless draw at halftime. Indianola scored the winning goal three minutes into the second half on a penalty kick. Indianola outshot the Eagles 16-9. Shelby Sytsma led a strong defensive backline for the Eagles with 27 defensive stops. Lexi Warden had 22 defensive stops and Kayla Groenendyk had 20 defensive stops. Abbey DeBruin recorded 10 saves in goal for Pella Christian. Coach Bill Collman said all in all it was a good season opener for his young Eagles squad which starts eight sophomores. He was very pleased with the defense and midfield play and also complimented the play of his veteran goalie Abbey DeBruin who is in her third year between the posts. Pella Christian will host ADM on Monday and South Tama on Tuesday. Both games will be played at the Pella Soccer Complex.
