Recent work around Lake Red Rock has helped restore native plant species through the removal and maintenance of more invasive plant varieties. The “vegetative maintenance” has been handled by Zumbro Valley Forestry of Minnesota, which aimed to clear a dense overgrowth of autumn olive and honeysuckle shrubs that were choking out many native species that provide habitat for wildlife around Lake Red Rock. The majority of the work has taken place in wildlife areas along County Highway G-28 and around the South Overlook Recreation Area, among others.
