A Pella hair salon is taking part in a unique effort to clean up the oil that has been spilled in the Gulf of Mexico. Expressions by design is keeping the hair clippings swept up from their floors and donating them to Matter of Trust.

Many kinds of hair – including human hair – naturally absorbs oil, and Matter of Trust is stuffing the hair clippings into recycled nylons to create booms to skim the waters and help soak up the spilled oil.
