Twenty-one grilling teams from five different states will gather in Knoxville this weekend for the LPQue Barbecue Championships. The contest is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and showcases the ability of both gas an pellet barbeque equipment to produce high quality cooked meats and poultry. The event takes place at 2305 North Lincoln Street, where teams will grill chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder, and beef brisket with the Grand Champion receiving a cash prize of $5,000 and a smoker valued at between $4,000 and $5,000. The LPQue Championships began yesterday and continue through this afternoon.
