The Pella baseball team split a pair of games at Newton last night in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Little Dutch overcame a rocky defensive effort in game one with a heavy dose of offense, as they came away with an 11-9 win. Batting leaders included Ryan Lanke went 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs, while Chris Bandstra also went 2-for-5 and added an RBI of his own. Despite walking six batters and giving up four earned runs, Alex Hardine earned the win to improve to 2-0 in the season.
In the second contest, Pella struggled to close out several two out situations, as the Cardinals evened the series with an 11-5 victory. The Little Dutch did, however, get a strong performance at the plate from Mark Frommelt, who went 2-for-4 with a double to maintain his plus-.500 batting average for the season. Pella is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Little Hawkeye Conference play.
