The Pella City Council had its first work session for the 2011-2012 budget Tuesday evening. City Administrator Mike Nardini says the approximately $17 millon budget that will be presented to the council will not include any rate increases on property taxes or utilities, which he says makes city leaders very deliberate in budgeting for their respective departments. Nardini says the city has been able to avoid raising the property tax level for ten years and adds that in light of current economic conditions, there are many mid-sized communities that would like to be in a similar fiscal situation as Pella. Nardini says the outstanding work of volunteers in the city is a big reason why the city is able to provide its services so efficiently.
