It was an up and down day 1 for Marion County wrestlers at the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The day started in class 1A where the Pleasantville Trojans had three wrestlers in action. At 140lbs Wes Prill dropped his first match with Teddie Harvey of Ft. Dodge St. Edmund by a 5-4 but bounced back in consolation play with a win over Dan Guthart of Rockford by a 16-6 score. At 145 for the Trojans Tasker Phillips was a big winner over Max Cherry of East Buchanan, Winthrop 13-2. At 215 Phil Lumley was a first round winner by a 7-3 score over Preston Russell of Lisbon. In the evening session for class 2A, PCM started state competition in Des Moines. Dalton Kingery at 119 defeated Chase Goodman of South Central Calhoun by a 17-3. That was one of just two wins for the Mustangs on the night. At 130lbs JC Vercande of Williamsburg beat Bryce Wignall of PCM by a 16-2 count, Wignall was also defeated in his consolation match by Grant Rosenboom of Davenport Assumption by a 5-0 score. At 160lbs Derek Stork of Atlantic pinned Trent Little of PCM in 0:59 seconds in Little’s first round match up, in the consolation match Dylan Nelson of Davis County defeated Little by an 8-3 score. At 215lbs Terron Geerdes of Central-Lyon/George-Little Rock defeated Dustin Moore of PCM in the first round 15-9, Moore bounced back to take his consolation match by a 5-4 score over Austin Ciesielski of Indepedence.
