One teacher in the Pella School district is giving her students an early lesson on the rewards of volunteering. Annie Wignall, a second grade teacher at Madison Elementary is helping her students start what they’re calling “Big Hearted Kids”.

Still in the planning stages, the group will sell items at the school in order to raise funds to pay for volunteer activities.

Wignall says her students got the idea after a field trip to Newton where they helped with her own organization, “Care Bags”.
