The Department of Natural Resources is assessing the situation after an SUV drove into a pond on the western edge of Pine Knolls Country Club overnight during a high speed chase. Knoxville native Shawn O’Brien escaped the pond uninjured, and is currently in jail facing numerous charges. The Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Fire & Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, and DNR continued to work to contain gasoline fluids that escaped from the SUV into the pond. The water from the pond is used to irrigate the golf course. Authorities are using absorbent booms as one of their measures to contain the gasoline.
