The Knoxville City Council voted to table a decision on an ordinance that would prevent citizens from carrying weapons in a City-owned building at Monday night’s meeting. Before the meeting was convened, the Iowa liaison for the NRA, Christopher Rager, sent a letter to the Council opposing the ordinance. In the letter, Rager outlined reasons he believed that the law only gives the state legislature authority to limit issuance and scope of non-professional permits to carry weapons. City Manager Harold Stewart says the ordinance was tabled to give the City Attorney a chance to research the issue.
