The season-ending loss by the PCM girls basketball team to Gilbert in the Regional Tournament was somewhat of a microcosm the team’s entire 2011-12 season. The Mustangs were a talented and resilient bunch, and those characteristics were on full display in their final competition of the season. PCM girls head basketball coach Bret Grier says the team’s competitive nature, coupled with the number of leaders expected to return next school year, should translate to some hard work put in over the coming months.

“I think that we do have a lot of athletes on this team, a lot of character girls, who really do take it seriously and want to win; want to do well,” said Grier. “The one thing you can say is we have a lot of girls who are fighters, they want to do well, and I think that will pay off, because a lot of those girls are underclassmen. They’re going to be back next year, and I think that will translate very well into working hard in the offseason.”

The PCM girls basketball team finished the season with a 13-10 overall record, and were 9-9 in a very competitive Heart of Iowa Conference. They’ll graduate just one senior from this year’s team and should have nearly all of this year’s key contributors back next season.
