The Marion County Courthouse elevator is in great working condition and in compliance with Iowa code. That’s what County Facilities Director Cal Stephens told the Supervisors during their meeting yesterday. Previously, the board had been concerned since the elevator wasn’t up to current American Disabilities Act standards due to new requirements. But a state inspector that recently inspected the elevator says that since it was up to ADA standards when it was installed, the board is not required to do any updates at this time. Compliance issues are complaint-driven, and Marion County rarely receives complaints about the elevator. The inspector told Stephens that structurally-speaking, the current Courthouse elevator was in excellent shape and had no issues.
