Veterans Day events will wrap up today throughout Marion County. In Knoxville, the annual Hy-Vee Veterans Day breakfast will take place at the National Guard Armory from 7-10:30 am. That breakfast is free for veterans and their spouses and serves around 350 people each year.

The Knoxville Senior Center will host a Veterans Day program at 10:30 today featuring women who have served. Marilyn Miller says that this is the tenth year they’ve hosted the program. Everyone is invited to attend. West Ridge Nursing and Rehab will have a flag raising ceremony at 2:15 today, and flags at Graceland Cemetery will be taken down at 3pm.

The Pella Hy-Vee is holding their annual Veterans Day breakfast at their store today. Starting at 6am, veterans and their spouses can get a free breakfast.

Hearthstone honored their veterans over the weekend with a presentation incorporating essays and songs from local elementary students. One veteran, Harold Sikma, told KNIA/KRLS about his service in the Navy, including a time they lost 5 pilots to bad weather. Hear his story on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
