Tuesday afternoon the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received calls regarding a late model Pontiac driving northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 5 near Pleasantville. Pleasantville Police Chief Joe Mrstik tells KNIA/KRLS News that he initiated pursuit of the vehicle on Highway 5 near Highway 316. The driver of the vehicle, 59 year old Robert Hannusch, from West Des Moines, refused to stop, and continued northbound weaving back and forth across the roadway at speeds that varied between 25-75 mph. Warren County Deputies deployed stop-sticks near the southern edge of Carlisle, and the vehicle was stopped. Hannusch refused commands by the five officers present to exit, and a window of the vehicle had to be broken out for him to be extricated. He was taken into custody by the Carlisle Police Department.

Carlisle Police Chief Jason Doll tells KNIA KRLS News that Hannusch will likely be charged with fleeing, eluding and resisting arrest. He also said that blood tests are being done to check if Hannusch was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Those results are not back yet.

Pleasantville PD Chief Mrstik commended the Carlisle PD and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department for their actions in making the arrest. The man appeared to be impaired, and tests are pending. The name of the man has not been released, and KNIA/KRLS News will bring you more information as soon as it becomes official.
