Marion County Engineer Roger Schletzbaum is retiring, and his last day will be Monday. Schletzbaum has been in this position for 13 years. The county engineer’s office performs maintenance on county roads and oversees construction and maintenance, on just over 900 miles of roads, and just over 200 bridges in the county. Schletzbaum says he plans to work with some special needs adults in his retirement. He says he feels his most significant accomplishment has been the bridge over the Des Moines River on T17, and credits former engineer Abie Davis with the planning and initiation of it. Schletzbaum says he will miss the job, and all the good people working for Marion County.
