Eight Marion County athletes started their quest for a championship yesterday at the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament held at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Pella’s Levi Azinger at 132 pounds won his first match versus Mac Southard from Lewis Central and will wrestle Keegan Shaw from SE Polk today in round two. Chase Petty at 126 pounds for the Dutch defeated SE Polk’s Jonah Williams and will face Bryce Meyer from Fort Madison today. At 138 pounds, Knoxville’s Kieran Robuck won his first match against Joey Huntington of Creston and now moves on to face Cody Naber of Dyersville Beckman today. Fellow Panther Brock Caviness, who was an alternate addition at 220 pounds lost his first match against Atlantic’s Tyler Christensen, and was eliminated in his second match by Chase Bonner from Estherville. Tristan Clark of PCM lost his first match in the 2A 126 pound bracket against Caleb Coleman from Bondurant-Farrar, and then rebounded with a victory over Duece Phaly of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Clark now faces the loser of the winners bracket matchup between his former opponent Coleman, and Brady Jennings from Osage. Three Melcher-Dallas students wrestling for SE Warren had first round wins last night.. Alex Mitchell beat Lane Boender of Sigourney-Keota and now faces Bryce Paul of Alburnett. Jacob Hoch got an overtime victory over Josh Hopkins of East Mills and now faces Lake Mills Noah Irons, and Ty Schnieder bested Clayton Juhl of North Cedar and drew Christopher Brincks of South Winneshiek in round two. All three Saints students wrestle in round two today.
