Marion County Special Olympian Marissa Schletzbaum will be going over the edge.

Marissa plans to rappel off the 345 foot Financial Center building in Des Moines for the Over The Edge for Special Olympics of Iowa event. She’ll be among as many as 100 people who will rappel off the building. Marissa’s mother, Maureen, says Marissa got interested in the event after being a Global Messenger for it last year.

“When we were leaving that day, she goes, ‘I’m gonna do that next year.’ So that just sparked the interest and things have fell into place for her to plan on doing that.”

The money raised will help approximately 12,000 Iowa athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Donations for the event are being accepted on Marissa’s giving page at FIRST GIVING dot COM. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 17th.
