Deer season closed this month, and according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, numbers are slightly up from one year ago.
Marion County Conservation Officer Ken Kenyon says despite a lower number of licenses sold, the total number of deer hunted was higher. More than 1900 deer were harvested in Marion County this season. Statewide, deer hunters reported 101,500 deer in 2014, which is an increase from more than 99,000 in 2013. The harvest data will be added to population surveys and hunter and landowner input when officials with the Iowa DNR discuss seasons and regulations this spring.
