UPDATE: Firefighters battled a house fire near downtown Pella in single digit temperatures late Saturday.
Pella Fire responded to the home at 942 Broadway just after 8:30 p.m., after one of the homeowners saw smoke upon arrival. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkum tells KNIA/KRLS News the fire started in the kitchen, and that there is extensive smoke damage throughout the building. He says if the homeowner didn’t arrive when she did and call for help immediately, the situation could have been much more serious. Nobody was injured. Traffic was blocked for nearly two hours as firefighters worked to secure the home. Pella Ambulance, the Pella Police Department, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
