Staging for the Knoxville Streetscape has begun, with construction beginning on Monday.
To help smooth traffic control, there will be some changes in the operation of downtown traffic lights. The intersection of Main and Pleasant will flash red. All of Roche streetlights will be flashing yellow, except at Marion, going east and west, which will flash red.
Equipment mobilization will take up four or five parking spots on the east end of Main, on the courthouse side. Sewer work on Main will take three to four weeks, and then work on Robinson between Second and First will begin, with construction on both streets occurring at the same time. The intersections of First and Second Streets on Robinson will remain open throughout the process. Construction should be completed by the Knoxville Nationals in August. Access to impacted businesses and the courthouse will be available throughout the effort. The City of Knoxville and the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce encourage the public to continue to support downtown businesses during the construction season.
