A ruling has led to the state returning the recently submitted 2015-2016 Knoxville City Budget back to the city for revisions.
City Manager Harold Stewart says an appeal won by a major Knoxville company regarding their property tax assessment means the city will lose about $32,000 in revenue. He said the Knoxville City Council had a choice to either raise the mill tax levy to make up the difference or find cuts elsewhere.
Stewart says the council agreed Monday not to raise the levy and to resubmit the budget with the necessary cuts to balance it out.
