UPDATE: A Newton man died earlier today along Elevator Road south of Pella.

At approximately 12:30 p.m, the Communication Center of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident near Keokuk Drive and Highway T17. A vehicle driven by Otto Jay Green, age 97 of Newton, had left the roadway, traveled through the ditch and came to rest after striking a tree stump. Green was transported to Pella Regional, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death and the accident remains under investigation.

Authorities are investigating a one vehicle accident along T-17 Tuesday afternoon.

KNIA/KRLS News has learned the driver left the roadway, drove along a ditch, and struck a tree.
Pella Rural Fire, Pella Ambulance, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the call. The accident remains under investigation. We will have more with this story as soon as it becomes official.
