During this postseason run, the Pleasantville Baseball team has relied on its dependable pitching staff and it has come through for them, only giving up a total of nine runs through five games. But the defense behind the stalwarts on the mound has been shaky at best, nearly costing the Trojans games as of late. Of the nine runs given up, only three so far have been earned runs and five of those have come in the last two games. A costly error in the top of the seventh inning in the substate final against BGM allowed a run to score to tie the game. With a one run lead going into the top of the seventh against West Sioux, another blunder allowed a run to score and another runner to advance to third, who eventually scored the go-ahead run. Both games required late inning heroics to win, but Head Coach Sheldon Card says the solution is very simple.

Going into tomorrow’s state semifinal game against an aggressive baserunning team like North Linn, the Trojans will have to cut out the fielding mistakes if they want to continue to come out on top. You can hear the play-by-play on 92.1 KRLS with a scheduled first pitch of 1:30 p.m.
