Marion County Treasurer Denise Emal tells KNIA/KRLS News that funding cuts to the DOT currently proposed in the Legislature could have an impact on the driver’s license station here in Marion County.

The proposed 9.7 million dollar cut would hit DOT staffing the hardest due to layoffs caused by the shortfall. The Marion County station is assisted by a county liaison and DOT supervisor. Emal says without their assistance wait times could be problematic. The Marion County station issues the 4th most licenses in the state and Emal has noticed that about ¾ of those are for Polk and Dallas County residents trying to avoid long lines. Although some licensing stations may be closed as a result of the cuts Emal says that given their high volume it is unlikely to happen here.
