Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams says choosing Lisco as a fiber internet provider at Monday night’s city council meeting is the cheaper option for Knoxville.

Adams estimated that choosing Lisco will save the city $80,000 in development costs over time and allow citizens to take advantage of next generation internet access. Knoxville’s current internet infrastructure does not meet the criteria to be considered high-speed. Lisco, which is headquartered in Fairfield, will begin expanding fiber lines to meet the city’s needs. Lisco won the bid over Mediacom in a 3-1 vote by the council. Councilman Kingery dissented. Councilwoman Allspach-Kline was absent.
