One big inning was all the Knoxville Baseball Squad needed last night in its 7-2 victory over Grinnell. The Panthers plated five runs in the third inning to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead. Knoxville then let the pitching of Jacob Zuck, who got the win, going 3 1/3 innings allowing two runs on two hits, and walked three. Rylan Cox went the remainder of the game in relief shutting out the Tigers over the final 3 2/3. The Panther bats were also alive as Knoxville blasted out ten hits lead by Calyn Baumgartner going 3/4, Ben Wallace got just one hit, but it was a big one, a two RBI single in the third inning. Zuck also ripped a two RBI single in the decisive third inning. Panther shortstop Blake McClung tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was important to get the non-conference win while playing well in the field limiting errors. Knoxville is now 13-11 on the season and is off until Thursday when the Panthers host Chariton in an important South Central Conference game. You can hear that game live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA and kniakrls.com.
