Republican lawmakers are attempting to make sure Planned Parenthood does not receive state funding.

The Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee agreed on January 31st to advance legislation that blocks family planning funding to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. State Senator Amy Sinclair told KNIA/KRLS News Monday the move simply takes one segment of the state’s budget for family planning services and requires that any provider in the program not provide abortions. The bill now sits in the State House of Representatives, and if passed could potentially cost the state approximately 2.5 million in federal Medicaid dollars.
