Today is the deadline for city councils and board of supervisors to submit their upcoming fiscal year budgets. As part of that process, the Pella City Council approved their plans for road construction over the next year.
Assistant City Administrator Corey Goodenow says crews will begin long-term planning and engineering for back-to-brick streets in the downtown business district, and work starting with alleyways near downtown early next year.
Goodenow says the city council allocated $1.1 million for paving some gravel roads in the city limits, and a special planning session will be held to determine annexation requirements and potentially assessing a portion of the cost of those improvements to the property owners
The upcoming fiscal year budget also includes $818,000 of funding for the reconstruction of Elm Street west of Broadway to W. 3rd Street, Lincoln Street from Hazel to E. 3rd Street, and E. 3rd Street from Columbus to Lincoln, will all projects taking place this summer.
