The Knoxville Public Library hosted Iowa Author Cheryl Mullenbach on Tuesday as she conducted a program titled “Iowa’s Misbehaving Women.”

During the program Mullenbach discussed women from Iowa who have made history in different ways. Among the women discussed were a Steamboat Captain on the Mississippi River and the first woman elected official in the U.S. Another was Mildred Gilson, a nurse in WW 1 from Knoxville. Gilson was stationed in France in 1919 while working for the Red Cross. Her position was 200 yards behind the front lines. She treated the wounds of a great many soldiers.
