Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are in the forecast through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, up to an inch of rain is possible throughout much of central Iowa through Wednesday after precipitation late last week made for soggy conditions. The showers are expected to help alleviate abnormally dry conditions persisting through much of the region south of Highway 92 and a short-term drought reported in southeast Marion County, the southern half of Mahaska, and most of Lucas and Monroe Counties.
