The Knoxville Shooting Team held their own invitational on Saturday with a strong field of schools competing for position going into the next part of the season. The home meet was held at the Marion County Sportsmens Club. All this work is pointed toward the state shoot held at Cedar Falls during the second week of June. The shooters spend lots of time working during practice and shooting outside of practice in order to better their skills and hone up on stance, follow through, and perfecting how to hold the shotgun in order to hit the target which can be seriously affected by weather. Saturday was one of those days where the clay pigeon would fly out of the machine and get caught by the wind and carried vertically in such a way that it was hard for the young shooters to get on target.
Schools in the competition were: Albia, Knoxville, Montezuma, Pella, and Pella Christian. North Mahaska was also in the meet but had to withdraw due to an issue at their school.
