The Central College community aimed to make their mark regionally throughout five counties during their annual service day Tuesday.

Director of the Center for Community-Based Learning Cheri Doane says most of the campus was out impacting local nonprofits and organizations in a positive way.

“We have about 70 projects under way, and it’s actually not only students, but faculty and staff as well,” she says. “We do not hold classes each year on this day in order to be able to work with out community partners together in this unique activity. I think we have over 700 volunteers, and the projects lie in about five central Iowa counties.”

Doane says Americorps VISTA Tiffany Nyugen (When) helped coordinate the challenging logistics of organizing the wide range of projects. Lecturer of Theatre Kate Kanne helped lead a team with a project called Days for Girls, an effort that she says has profound impact around the globe, one of many efforts ongoing during the day on campus as well.
