The state budget has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks after the Revenue Estimating Conference was wrong in its estimates for the fifth consecutive year.
Due to the recent wrong estimates state legislators have set a target budget for fiscal year 2018 that calls for approximately $18 million dollars less in spending compared to fiscal year 2017. The state House of Representatives and Senate have agreed on a target budget for fiscal year 2018 of $7.245 billion dollars. Representative Greg Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS News the budget still fully funds the additional $40 million dollars for K-12 education. Heartsill says the budget will be distributed among seven different budgets including, administration and regulation, agricultural/natural resources, economic development, education, health and human services, justice systems, and the standing bill.
